DESCRIPTION The ability to distinguish “both/and” polarities to manage from “either/or” problems to solve is a key competency for leaders to survive and thrive in today’s landscape of change and complexity. The challenge facing coaches and their clients is help for the HOW TO: · SEE the whole picture and the patterns within, avoid seductive “quick-fixes” that often fail, and know when and why they are blocked from reaching a goal, and; · MAP and TAP the inherent energy chain of interdependent value pairs (polarities) to not only attain goals · TRACK Action Steps for goals and preventative Early Warning Signs provide support through the learning curve and integration/application of new skills and behaviors. WHO SHOULD ATTEND This workshop is for coaches who are interested in learning the basics of tapping the power of Polarities; expand their thinking and awareness of the phenomenon of interdependent pairs of values, and how to blend this with skilled coaching techniques to the “5 C’s”: Complexity, Change, Conflict, and Chronic/Cross-Cultural Issues. This course qualifies as a prerequisite for the next step in learning about polarities -- the 4-day Consultant Development Intensive (CDI). The research is clear that leaders and organizations that manage interdependency well outperform those that don't. Coaching to Polarities will expose participants to this powerful, proven methodology and tool. The result is achievement of high-performance and sustainable dynamic balance, and provide an entry point expand coaching conversations that makes a difference in the coaching experience. OBJECTIVES: 1. Provide a background and understanding of Polarity Management®. 2. Understand the critical importance for coaches and clients to identify and manage polarities in complex times. 3. Understand the natural phenomenon of interdependent pairs of values and how all polarities work and affect the coaching experience. 4. See polarities inherent in the ICF Core Competencies to improve or enhance your coaching ability DEVELOP SKILLS TO; 1. Distinguish between "either/or" problems to solve and "both/and" polarities to manage and the value of using both types of thinking for leading/managing. 2. Coach to polarities and predict their movement through the Polarity Mapping process. 3. Create a picture of predictive patterns of behavior 4. Break through predictive patterns of behavior by identifying Action Steps and Early Warnings that work for your client.
Schedule:
Participants arrive at the Xperience LLC Retreat & Learning Center, “Kayser Ridge” at 5:00pm on Monday (dinner provided) and the workshop ends at 4:00pm on Wednesday. Price includes all meals, lodging (dorm style), workshop tuition and materials. Participants may participate in Tai Chi instruction.

About Kathy Anderson
Kathy Anderson has 20+ years of operations management, project management, and organization development experience from both the private and public sector. Kathy currently divides her time as an independent coach and organization development consultant and facilitator, and internal project manager.
Her interest is in helping others work through organizational difficulties by facilitating development of effective teams, streamlining processes, managing projects, and finding and simplifying the path to success.
Kathy holds an MBA in Management and a Masters Certificate in Organization Development from St. Thomas University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Metropolitan State University Saint Paul Minnesota. Kathy is a Polarity Management® Associate, a Human Systems Dynamics® Institute Associate, and is a certified coach having completed programs with the Coaches Training Institute and through the Transformational Leadership Coaching Institute.
Kathy’s new book, Polarity Coaching: Coaching People and Managing Polarities, is an approach that blends the art of coaching within the framework of Both/And thinking using the Polarity Management® model. Kathy and her husband Bob live in Saint Paul.
About Cliff Kayser
Cliff is a consultant, coach, leadership trainer and entrepreneur whose past experience also includes an internal consulting position as VP of OD and Training for The National Cooperative Bank (NCB), a Congressionally-chartered financial institution located in Washington, D.C. where he provided OD, change management, and executive coaching services to NCB and its 340-plus employees in the Washington, DC headquarters and in branch locations in New York, Ohio, and California. Cliff also spent nearly a decade serving The Washington Post newspaper as Senior OD Consultant and the corporate office of The Washington Post Company as Corporate Manager of HR, Training and Web Development. Prior to joining The Washington Post Company Cliff held HR and management positions at the Planning & Development Collaborative International, the law firm Arter, Hadden, Haynes & Miller, and ServiceMASTER.
Cliff is adjunct faculty for American University, the Gestalt Insititute of Cleveland, and the Mason Center for Team and Organization Development.
Cliff holds a BS in History and Business from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC, Master’s Degrees in both OD and HR from American University, and graduated from Georgetown University’s Executive Leadership Coaching program. Cliff is an International Coaching Federation certified coach and certified by The Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Professional in HR. Cliff is Mastery Certified in Polarity Management and an Associate of Polarity Management Associates.
Cliff is a contributing author to, The Love,an international collection of over seventy essays, articles, and poems contributed by New York Times best-selling authors and the generous contributions of Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners, such as: Andrew Cohen, Wendell Berry,Madeleine L’Engle,Barbara Hand Clow, Maya Angelou,Sharon Olds,Mahatma Gandhi,Alex Grey,Stephen Dunn,Aung San Suu Kyi,Brian McLaren,and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
